Patient came to our hospital with the chief complaint of pain in right upper back tooth region for the past one week.
History of injury to the tooth long back.so we advised RVG for that tooth.
RVG-Digital Radiovisiography:
- Latest x-ray technology
- Reduced radiation exposure
- Time conserving due to faster imaging
- High quality of the image
- Advisable even for children due to less radiation
RVG reveals internal resorption (resorption inside the tooth).
So we advised removal of that tooth and explained the replacement options[Removable,Fixed(bridge & implant)].We explained the advantages and disadvantages for each one.
REMOVABLE PARTIAL DENTURE
Removable type
Advantages:
- No damage to the adjacent teeth
- Affordable
Disadvantages:
- Uncomfortable
- Covers the roof of the mouth,hence it affects the speech,function and taste sensation
- The bone where the tooth is missing will continue to shrink as the bone is not in function
- As the bone and tissues continue to shrink,the denture will become loose and will need frequent replacement.
BRIDGE
Bridge type
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
- Requries tooth reduction of the adjacent teeth
- ROOT CANAL TREATMENT requried as preventive one for the adjacent teeth
- Greater tendency for gum disease
- Less longivity
- Adjacent teeth may decay
IMPLANTS
Implant
Advantages:
- Esthetic and functional
- Does not affect the adjacent teeth
- Less likely to develop gum disease
- Time consuming
- Does not cause decay in the adjacent teeth
Disadvantages:
- Cost
- Dental insurance normally will not cover the implant procedure
The bottom line is that there are disadvantages to the dental implants.Overall the process is a long term benefit for a short term sacrifice.
Dental implants are by far the best option in the majority of the situations when the tooth are lost.

After discussing the pros and cons of other treatment modalities, patient decided to do NOBEL ACTIVE IMPLANTS.
We removed the resorbed tooth and replaced immediately with NOBEL ACTIVE IMPLANTS. The entire procedure was painless and completed within 10 minutes under local anesthesia.
We gave a temporary crown immediately after the implant placement, as it was in the smile zone
After three days,permanent crown was fixed.
